Style for the Slopes - Skiing and Snowboarding Clothes

If you going skiing or snowboarding, hitting the slopes in style and looking good is probably just as important as keeping warm. I really love the Adidas by Stella McCartney snow clothes. Unluckily for me I won't be going skiing or snow boarding this year, but I might just invest in a new jacket to wear out and about - purely for its practicality of course!.

A Very Happy New Year

I would like to wish all readers of Style Eyes a very happy and stylish new year. I have now recovered from over eating and drinking of christmas. I have been spending a little time having a really good clear out of my wardrobe. It is now no longer cluttered with clothes and shoes I will never wear. I have even cleaned up and polished all of my shoes and handbags. With everything now in order, I have been thinking about my new years resolutions. This year I have decided to make a few changes to my life that will allow me to fill my wardrobe with gorgeous clothes.

I am also going to try and stick to buying some key basic clothes in this season trends and start accessorising my outfits with gorgeous accessories such as this beautiful Missoni Scarf from My Wardrobe.

Confection for your hands

Pistachio Accessorize

I have always loved sparkly stuff and can spend hours hunting around shops for fashion jewellry. I have never owned a large and glitzy ring though, the sort of ring that really catches peoples eye. I have decided to find myself a cheap and cheerful sort of cocktail ring to brighten up my outfits over christmas. Here are some of the beauties that I found, I think I might even get a selection to wear with different outfits .

Diffusion or Confusion

I am starting to get slightly confused by the number of different brands and ranges by some designers. We have couture and ready to wear, then diffusion brands, then diffusion ranges on the high street. So whats the difference and whats the point? I thought I would find out.

Many designer labels have diffusion brands such as See by Chloe, Marc by Marc Jacobs, DKNY, D &G, Moschino Cheap and Chic. They seem to have originaly been set up as a cheaper version of the main line to increase their market potential. They are generally made of the same good quality materials and high quality workmanship. Some are almost as good as the main brands and recently some diffuson labels have started to set trends in their own right such as Miu Miu which no longer sits in the diffusion section at Harvey Nics but alongside the main designer ranges . I think they are a great way to get some designer clothes at a slightly more affordable price. Although they are probably still quite expensive for a lot of people.

But what about the designer diffusion ranges in high street shops. These ranges are usually a lot cheaper and mass produced, so you are likely to see lots of others wearing your outfit, but then they will be a lot cheaper. This is a classic example of designers wanting to have their cake and eat it by profting from the high end and mass market. Why not, if they can get away with it, the high street makes a tidy profit from ripping off designer clothes so why shouldn't the designers get a slice of the cake as well (I seem to be obsessed with cake today). The designer high street ranges are quite variable some are better than others, they are also usually quite limited with a few pieces. I like to have a look and occasionally pick and choose some items from them as I do any other High street range but would definitely not buy from them just because they are associated with a designer.

I really like some of the premium ranges that high street shops are now introducing as the latest weapon in the fashion retailers arms race. They are bit more pricey than the usual shop range but seem to be better designed and slightly better quality. I think these are just as good as the high street designer diffusion ranges. It looks like the high street is upping its game and I think its great that we get even more choice. As always it doesn't matter where I get my clothes from as long as I love them and I think they are worth the money.
My favourites are:

High Street Designer Diffusion Ranges: Not sure if I have any at the moment but I quite like Julien Macdonald for H Samuel.

Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel's first ever show in London

I would have so loved to be there. Unfortunatley, I think my invite must have got lost in the post. I have always loved Chanel clothes and Karl Lagerfeld whilst apparently as mad as a hatter certainly knows how to put on a show filled with drama and hype. Not least with the line up of celebrity guests invited to the show and the chic dinner at Nobu including Kylie Minogue, Agyness Deyne, Kate Moss and Petes latest ex fiance Irina.

The Maison d'art collection by Karl Lagerfeld was shown at the first ever Chanel fashion show in London. Some of the show can be seen on Elle TV. The show was by candlelight with live music and singing by Irina, the room was adorned with Chanel logos , the models were the usual top line up including Agyness Deyne and Daisy Lowe with big beehive hair and this seasons dark eyelined look. The clothes were just what I would describe as the typical of the Lagerfeld style that I love.

The colours were predominantly black, with a few whites, greys, browns, metallics and purples thrown in for a bit of variety. The skirts were above the knee or straight and skimmed the floor and the elegant ensembles were made up of tweed a classic for chanel as well as leather, chiffon and wool. The details included puffs, ruffles, ribbons, fray, beading and angularly constructed sleeves.

Jens Laugesen Spring/ Summer 08

I heard about Jens at this years London Fashion Week and really liked his spring / summer 08 collection. It carries on some of this seasons masculine tailoring and metallics but gives them a new edge for spring and summer by combining tailoring with soft floaty materials and black and white with metallics. These are some of his ready to wear collection that I would love to have smart, stylish with a feminine edge.
