Designer Sports Wear

Sports wear is not something I usually give too much thought too. Maybe because I don't really ever find the time to do any sport (I know that is very bad) and also because I have always been against the wearing of sports wear ie tracksuits and trainers as everyday wear. I am all for comfy and practical clothes but wearing sports wear when not doing sport to me is taking the whole comfy and practical thing just a step too far. The announcement that Hussein Chalayan has been appointed creative director for the sport life style label Puma did however make me sit up and take some notice. Chalayan graduated from Central Saint Martins School of Art with an honors degree in fashion. He has been named “British Designer of the Year” twice for his innovative collections and performance-based fashion productions. His work is considered both fashion and art and I am really interested to see how this will be translated into sports wear for Puma.

Of course Puma collaboration with a top designer is not a first, Alexander McQueen has previously worked with Puma and adidas by Stella McCartney is a very popular range. The Ski wear by Stella McCartney is probably of most interest to me. With style on the slopes being as much of a consideration as warmth and comfort. I love the adidas by Stella McCartney WS Performance jacket. Who knows if sports wear and designer collaborations take off maybe this will be a great incentive for me to get out and do a bit of sport!
