SATC Fashion

With this being a fashion blog, I couldn't let the SATC film pass by without a mention. For me and many others the fashion has always been more important than the program and this is why I will be going to see the film.

Sex and the city has a style for everyone (well everyone who has a small fortune to spend on clothes that is). There is Carrie, played by Sarah Jessica Parker who has a unique look which ranges from girly and feminine to sex kitten. Her style can be created by mixing designer clothes with vintage finds and teaming with stilletos (preferably Manolos). Samantha, played by Kim Catrall has a strong feminine style with bright colours. Charlotte, played by Kristin Davis has a preppy look that is femine and cute with accessories like bows and proper handbags. Lastly Miranda, played by Cynthia Nixon is a definite power dresser with a wardrobe full of androgynous and corporate suits. Sex and the City has had such a huge influence on fashion, it is hard to find anyone without some SATC basics in their wardrobe including stilletos and ‘it’ bags.

Carrie and her friends are styled by a team of fashionistas who select up to 50 outfits for every show. But here are some budget options for SATC fashion fans.

Blooming Feet

Whilst I wouldn't class New Look as one of my favourite shops of all time, they do occasionally manage to through up a little gem or two. Especially in the shoe department. Just when I though I had done this seasons florals to death and couldn't possibly do any more, I have found some shoes that mean I can even apply the trend to my blooming feet (If you will excuse the pun). These gorgeous floral shoes are great for brightening up a plain colour shift dress or little black dress. My favourite is the very ladylike black court. For the very brave these lovely shoes could very cleverly and carefully combined with a floral print dress.

Needle Phobia

picture from thefamilybusinesstattoo.com

Saira Hunjan celebrity tattooist and founder of the The Family Business creates beautiful works of art on skin. She is responsible for the swallow tattoo on Kate Moss's back. Born in south London to a traditional Asian family, as a child she drew designs for her grandmother to use when decorating her hands with henna . Her designs are an eclectic mix of Catholic and Hindu iconography. They are feminine with beautiful colours and created with an amazing amount of creative talent. She gets inspirations from vintage American Sailor tattoos, pinup motifs and Mexican day of the dead, amongst other things. As entranced as I am by her beautiful tattoos, I'm not sure I could ever undergo the needle. The whole irreversibility of a tattoo (even ones as beautiful as this) really scares me.

Luckily for the Squeamish types like myself, Saira can apply her skills to fashion when she chooses. She has designer T shirts for Luella Bartley and she has also collaborated with milliner, Yasmin Rizvi, for London Fashion Week's On/Off exhibition. Now she is launching her own label Gypsy Devi will have lots of my favourite accessory - scarves, featuring Saira's designs. Saira will also be collaborating with jewellery designer Johnny Rocket, jeweller to Julien Macdonald for Swarsovski Rocks this summer, in a project to create her designs in jewels to be put on the skin. I can't wait I do love a bit of bling.

A Jumpsuit for Every Occasion

I blogged about jumpsuits back in March in my post Jump for Joy and since then they seem to be popping up all over the place. Smart jumpsuits, shorts ones, long ones, wrap ones. This only goes on to fuel my obsession with them. I think I have almost found a gorgeous jumpsuit for ever occasion or even one for every day.

Resort 2009 - Christian Dior

pictures from style.com

Now, I fear I may be getting a bit ahead of myself or actually a lot ahead of myself by daring to look at the resort 2009 collections. This is the name given to the collection that comes out before the full spring / summer collection comes out. Whilst I have spent plenty of time pondering, researching and buying my clothes for summer 2008, I have barely had a chance to wear them yet with just a mere week or two of fleeting sunshine so am I yet ready to move onto next summer. Well actually I love summer and I suppose there would be nothing wrong with wearing some of next years trends this year- would there?

So here it is Christian Dior had a gorgeous resort collection for 2009. Full of satins in bright fuschia pinks and lime greens, yellows and whites. Colour was a key theme with ruffles and kaftans, Capri pants and sheer layers. Big bold jewellry, dangly earrings and jewel embellishment was key to the look. I loved the bright and happy palette used by Galliano. The styles were not a million miles away from this years resort collection and were defintely in keeping with a lot of this seasons trends but with clothes as gorgeous as this who cares.

FitFlops - Is keeping fit really that easy?

Yesterday I booked my summer holiday. Here begins my pre summer bikini panic. With only a few months to go before I am sunning myself around the swimming pool in my bikini, I need to get in shape fast. Apparently (and this must have completely passed me by), fitflops were the top way to tone up legs last year. They simulate an uneven walking surface which challenges core calf, thigh and butt muscles to maintain control while you walk . They were mentioned in The Times in May last year and the Daily Mail in June last year and of course got very mixed feedback from how incredibly comfy to how incredibly uncomfy they were but no real mention of whether they worked. So not completely sold on their leg toning ability, I have decided to give them a go on the basis that if there is a chance I will look better in my bikini then it must be worth it. I did think to myself about the awful trend for crocs and whether it was really worth sacrificing style for toned legs and comfort, but actually Fitflops look quite nice in a sporty kind of way. They even have fringed, sparkly, snakeskin and gladiator styles. I like the Navy Walkstar ones and whilst not a huge style statement, they are not bad at all for around the house or walking the children to school and very reasonably priced too.

I have mine on order from Sweaty Betty (they are also available from Ugs and Kisses) I will be wearing them every day for the school walk to see if they really work. I will keep you posted on the results but I'm afraid I will not be doing before or after pictures.
