Graduate Collection
I loved the graduate collection of Ada Zanditon. Theatrical, Scupltural and artistic were all great words to describe but it was certainly not very wearable not for the majority of the population at least. As graduate shows are really about showing what you are made of design wise and practical considerations less of a pressing matter, I am more than happy to enjoy looking at the interesting shapes, textures and patterns that combine to create some very dramatic pieces.
Once graduation is over, most designers have to adapt their artistic tendencies to create more commercially viable collections that are fit for general public consumption. It is always really interesting to see how well they can do this. Judging by the preview of Ada Zandition's SS10 collection, which is showing at Vauxhall Fashion Scout and exhibiting at Somerset House, we have lots to look forward to in terms of gorgeously stylish and wearable clothes.
I also love that this collection is suatinable - more great guilt free shopping!

Sequin Jackets

sequin jacket blazer sequin jacket blazer
I am loving tailored jackets and sequins for the autumn and winter, even better I am loving the two together. I have found two very good value sequin jackets at New Look. One with a sequinned lapel and one with sequins all over. Whilst I would usually opt for the all over sequins and do my best to over dose on sparkle. But, on this occasion I prefer the one with sequins on the lapel as it looks so crisp.

Something Else - grey prints

Urban Outfitters is always a great site to browse and never fails to get me spending money that I haven't got. On my latest visit I discovered Something Else which really indulges my most recent craving for black, white and grey swirly, uneven, sort of textured patterns, or burnt out as these items are described. This sort of grungey effect is great for those days when I want something subtle but interesting and a bit different to wear. They would also look great combined with some bright colours for a more in your face sort of look.

This winter is definitely going to be all about prints and I think this Australian label by Natalie Wood has got just the right balance between wearable and edgy with these pieces.

I think the washed out and textured greys would look good with these floral footless tights.

New Camera

fashion blog
After much research and surfing of the internet, I have finally managed to get myself a new SLR camera. I eventually decided upon the Nikon D40 as it is supposed to be easy to use and produces great pics with very little effort.

I am hoping that I will be able to start taking lots of fashion and style pictures to publish on Style Eyes Fashion Blog. So far I have managed to take some lovely pictures of other people but am struggling to take any of myself with the self timer.

Topshop AW09 - boots, sequins and studs

I am writing this post at 5am on a Sunday morning (don't ask), so forgive me if I it is slightly rambling and lacking in clarity. But when I opened my emails to find (amongst several hundred other emails) a mailshot about the Topshop AW09 collection, I couldn't resist a little look. The look book centered around four main themes. There was just one thing that really jumped out at me - the boots.

As part of my carefully planned winter wardrobe, I have already decided that I will be needing some new boots and was pretty excited to see what is on offer. I couldn't believe it when I spotted the over the knee boots. Although I am really unsure how these will work on someone only 5ft 2 tall, I am going to have to give them a try out anyway. I was pretty disappointed to find the electric blue ones were not for sale but consoled myself with the fact that they had some flat options (perfect for everyday wear). I also love the lace up boots, perhaps I will give these a try aswell!

Whilst none of the lookbook outfits really appealed to me (but then I am probably slightly older than your average Topshop customerr) there were plenty of individual items that I really liked.

Float Like a Butterfly - Matthew Williamson High Street Collections

Matthew Williamson Butterfly

Matthew Williamson Butterfly Debenhams
Matthew Williamson Butterfly for Debenhams Pewter Print and Beaded Pleat T Shirt

Matthew Williamson Butterfly Debenhams
Matthew Williamson Butterfly for Debenhams Slinky Jersey Dress

I make no secret of the fact that Matthew Williamson is my favourite designer. I was really excited when the H & M Matthew Willliamson collection was announced but as usual, that particular week I was just too busy and cash strapped to get a piece of the action. This follows a similar pattern for most of these designer collections.

1. Much hype
2. launched on a week when I am snowed under with work/ on holiday etc
3. I go about my usual routine of umming and ahhhing and generally fannying about trying to make a decision on what or whether I should buy something.
4. I realise that every thing is sold out any way.

I guess it is the whole hype and urgency about buying something from these collections that puts me off. I feel like I am being pressurised, a bit like when a door to door sales man is trying to sell you double glazing.

I have mixed feelings about the designer high street collections. I realise that they are never going to be as good as the real thing but if I can't afford the real thing, then sometimes second best is almost as good.

What I am not getting is why such a fuss about the H & M collection but Debenhams who have had a Matthew Williamson range called Butterfly for some time, don't get half the press coverage. Possibly because it has not been marketed as much or because it is not a one off so effectively making it more attainable, therefore less desirable. Perhaps by making these collections so limited and overhyped, the clothes become almost as exclusive and desireable as the real thing.
I have spotted some very gorgeous clothes in the Debenhams Matthew Williamson Butterfly range which definitely capture the spirit and what I love about his designs. Bright colours and striking patterns, glamorous, feminine and intricate details. The slinky jersey dress has made it onto to my absolute must have list - it was definitely love at first site. But what I really love about this range is the lack of hype and time to make up my mind what I really want to buy.

Chic Shopper - I have started to think about autumn and winter already including what I will be wearing, I have reviewed the trends for autumn winter 09. One trend that I definitely been seeing around is the new asymmetric dress. I check out a really colourful way to make a statement with your feet in yellow shoes. I review one of the most versatile dresses around the classic shift dress. I am also loving the retro look for this winter with red lipstick and can't wait to get my hands on some patterned tights for winter.

Grey denim is not at all boring

Grey and purple dip dye top, Young Fabulous and Broke - My Wardrobe

Grey is going to be all over the shops this autumn and winter, so I have decided to invest in some grey jeans. Some might think that grey jeans combined with black or other dark colours is a bit of a grungy look and a teensy weensy bit boring but they also work well with lots of other colours including peach, purple, blue, white and yellow. I would class grey denim as a wardrobe staple and almost as versatile as my trusty blue jeans.
If you are looking for a more eye catching look than just plain grey, why not try bleaching an old pair of black jeans that have started to fade. There are all sorts of effects that you can achieve from marbled to an almost tie dye or spattered. Use neat bleach for the design, leave for about 2 or 3 minutes and then soak in diluted bleach for about 10 minutes before rinsing well. The longer you leave the jeans in bleach the lighter grey they will be.
bleached grey denim

I scrunched the jeans loosely and tied with string before rolling in neat bleach to give the patchy effect.I kept my jeans a dark grey colour by not soaking in bleach for too long to give maximum contrast with the bleached patches. These bleached grey jeans will also look great with all of the colours mentioned above especially peach.

Monday, 17 August 2009 to hold it’s first ever clothes swap party in London

clothes swap party london chiswick swishing, the clothes swap website is holding it’s first ever clothes swap party in London. The party which will include a pamper treatment, glass of wine and goody bag for each guest will be held on 17th September from 7.30pm until 10pm at St Michaels and All Angels church in Chiswick. is a website where users can swap, buy and sell second hand, vintage and recycled clothes for free. The latest plan to hold clothes swap parties in various locations around the UK in collaboration with Total renewal beauty and Style to Wear, Personal Styling, reflects the growing popularity of clothes swapping and second hand clothes. The website has proved a huge success, but many swappers also want to combine the clothes swapping with a social event and the opportunity to look at the clothes up close. The pampering treatments provided by Total Renewal will allow swappers to really relax and enjoy themselves.

Clothes swapping parties which are also referred to as swishing originated in the US. Their popularity has quickly grown in the UK as consumers abandon fast fashion in favour of sustainable style. This change in consumer behaviour is due to a much greater awareness of both the environmental and ethical issues surrounding fashion and the current economic conditions.

Each attendee at the Posh Swap Clothes Swap party will be asked to bring along 5 pieces of unwanted clothing that someone else would be delighted to receive. All of the clothes will be laid out so that swappers can browse and socialise while enjoying a drink before the beginning of the swap is announced. Once the swap begins, swappers can claim up to 5 pieces of clothing. Swappers will also have the opportunity to indulge themselves with either a mini manicure or neck and shoulder massage and one lucky person will receive a styling and makeover session.
Tickets for the first ever Posh Swaps clothes swap party in Chiswick are £15 by advance purchase only. Full details of Posh Swaps clothes swap parties are available on

Junky Styling Wardrobe Surgery Launch

junky styling wardrobe surgery
junky styling wardrobe surgeryJunky Styling if nothing else is an original concept. Launched by Annika Sanders and Kerry Seager, the girls got teenage kicks back in the 90’s from designing their own clothes for their late night ventures. After many a compliment they decided there was money to be made out of their venture, by making uber cool clothes out of out of other peoples unwanted garms, and therefore a meshed up form of Styling was born. Great concept and interesting clothes.

So when Style eyes were invited to the launch of their “Junky Styling Wardrobe Surgery” book, we were more than happy to attend. On arrival there were cocktails galore served by PVC cat suit clad ladies, models standing on pillars around the room wearing junky’s wacky designs and funky music echoing throughout the event. Niiiice. The dresses were not something I would describe as wearable but they were interesting and very well made. The designs showcased at the event were some of the wackier ones, but for a more toned down alternative do check out their online store ( Unfortunately I didn’t get to pick up a copy of the book so I can’t comment on its content but I know that I personally wouldn’t have the patience for such a project. But, if you fancy yourself as an undiscovered designer or if you have a lot of unwanted clothing you would like to turn into a reworked masterpiece this could be a book for you.

Planning your fashion for an evening or night out

fashion for an evening out
Cocktail dresses and hot minis may always be the look-out fashion for evening night outs. But remember that you can always be creative in your evening fashion so as to make the most out of your nocturnal activities Planning your evening get up in advance will ensure that you don’t end up in flummox. Here are a few practical tips to save yourself every time someone spontaneously asks you for a night out:

1. Save that Cocktail Dress – No matter how many times you used that dress, it can still be used for other functions. Just make sure that the event you’re going to doesn’t contain the same people as before.

2. Go Get Those Bargains - Always invest on something you can always mix and match in case you have night parties to attend to in a row!

Basso and Brooke - Gorgeously Colourful

basso and brooke
basso and brooke

The Basso and Brooke pre collection for SS10 made me feel a real sense of excitement. I love the day dreamy, rainbow cloudy colours. The white background tones them down to just the right level that they look gorgeously colourful but still in a highly wearable way. The tailoring and fitted dresses kept them from looking too airey fairey but they have a great fun feel. There is almost something very familiar and comforting about these clothes. Perhaps it is because they remind me of My Little Ponies, Care Bears and Rainbow Bright, some of my favourite childhood toys, but there is definitely nothing childish about these clothes.
I just have to have something from this collection (or pre collection) and I can't wait to see ehat comes next from Basso and Brooke.
